English Presentation (1) Wednesday 5-6: 2016

While giving the speech, I tried to improve my weakness from the mid-term presentation that it was fill-in-blank speech. So I tried to memorize it and make the speech smooth. The PPT was also simple and easy to understand. I made an eye-contact with audiences to deliver the speech correctly and to make them understand.

2. How well did the audience get to know the speech subject?

Well, some of them surprised when they saw the result of the survey. They are all familliar with my speech subject. So they understood easily and quickly.

3. Did the speech reflect adequate preparation?
I used Powerpoint to show the result of the survey but I was afraid that it might be boring so I made it by putting some picture, change color of the letters, etc. Also, I tried not to use the memos while doing the presentation and give an eye-contact too.

4. Did the speaker talk clearly and audibly?
I spoke clear and slow enough that audiences could follow and hear my speech, in my opinion. At first, I did it so fast and it caused that the audiences couldn't follow me. So I slow down a bit and spoke audibly.

5. Did the speech have a definite opening, body, and conclusion?

Yes. My speech begins with few warm-up questions to the audiences about drinking. Then, I continued with the result of the survey. Lastly, I concluded by giving them a warning that it is harmful for our health if we drink too much.

I honestly had looked at my notes sometimes. However, I did better that the mid-term presentation. I also tried to make many eye-contact with the audiences.

7. What could the speaker have done differently that would have improved the speech?

I should collect more opinions from other students and other ages to make my survey reliable.

8. What did you like about the presentation?
While I was doing my survey, it was interesting and all the repliers were interested in this topic too. Since it was a topic that everyone is interested, the presentation wasn't boring at all, in my opinion.

1. What strong points does the speaker have?
The speech was recorded without a sript ; I referred to a memo only for the percentage number of the survey. Also I tried to improve my weakness from the mid-term presentation: speed of speech. I waited enough for the anweres of the audieneces to le them keep focusing on my speech and for the whole speech. Also, I tried to slow down the speed and deliver what I say as clearly as possible.

2. How well did the audience get to know the speech subject?
I guess most of them got to know well about the speech subject. This was one of the focuses I concentrated on when preparing the presentation and that is why I chose the subject to figure out the habit of twenties in specific, not young generation in general. I also mentioned that I also targetted the 40's as a comparative group of 20's. Plus, I began my speech asking the audience about their own speech habit and gave them the definition of 'slang' to make it clear. I also asked if they had any quesions about my subject with a review of the whole survey results and a conclusion at the end of the speech.

3. Did the speech reflect adequate preparation?
I tried hard to make the ppt file as clear as possible because it can be quite hard or boring to see the statistics when it is not neat enough. Therefore, I put each question in each slide and emphasize the parts I wanted to show them. I also memorized all the script to make eye contacts a lot and used microphone to make sure that everyone can get what I was saying.

4. Did the speaker talk clearly and audibly?
To be honest, the hardest part for me when I was giving a speech was controling my speed of speech. I tend to speak fast when I have conversations with people, but for presentation, for everyone to get what I am saying, I had to slow down my speech a little bit. Unless, the audience could feel like I am so nervous that I want to end my presentation quickly, so I tried to relax and have a lot of eye contacts to make sure that they are clear with what I am saying.

Yes. I began with an opening asking a warm-up question for the audience and gave the definition of 'slang', which was my subject of speech. For body parts, I included each questions, answers and interpretation of the survey I have done. Finally, in conclusion, I reviewed the results of the survey and suggested what we shoud be careful about when using slang.

6. Please comment on the speaker's use of notes/eye contact.
I had a note for only for the percentage number of the survey and it was only once. Also, I tried to make as many eye-contacts as possible.

7. What could the speaker have done differently that would have improved the speech?
Since it is a presentation about survey, I should collect more answers to make sure that my survey is reliable.

8. What did you like about the presentation?
I liked that it was about the twenties since both the speaker and the audience are all in their twenties and I think this made the audience be interested about the presentation. Plus, I liked that it had a clear conclusion; it did not end with showing the results but contained a suggestion related with generation gap.

1. What strong points does the speaker have?

He keeps on eye-contacting his audiences. His intonation and pronunciation are decent. His contents are detailed.

By viewing the visual materials and listening to the explanation, they now have much better knowledge regarding how a song is produced.

3. Did the speech reflect adequate preparation?

Yes, it did. I thoroughly analyzed the process I intended to let my audiences know. Furthermore, I absolutely made sure that there is no wrong information in it.

4. Did the speaker talk clearly and audibly?

Yes, he did. He spoke comparably slowly and fluently that even those who are not used to English can easily understand.

5. Did the speech have a definite opening, body, and conclusion?

Yes, it did. It was definitely organized in a designated order so that everyone could recognize how it goes.

He was well aware of what he wanted to tell the audiences. Hence, he was not in need of extra notes. His eye contact was good enough to make sure everyone was following him.

7. What could the speaker have done differently that would have improved the speech?

He could have brought some more visual supplements. Also, it might have been better if he could add some more details on the contents of his presentation.

I firmly believe that every aspect that a presentation requires was sufficiently included.

Yes. I made my survey questions and papers for a long time. With my survey papers, I surveyed 10 people. After surveying, I tried hard to analyze my survey results and make my informative PPT. I practiced this presentation almost 10 times! I think my presentation reflects adequate preparation.

Yes. But I think speaker talked clearly but my voice was a little bit small.

Yes. In opening, I talked my motive to do this survey. In body, I showed survey results with clear graphs. In conclusion, I presented about analysis of results and my thought of it.

In this time, I didn't use notes. Also, as you can see, I made several eye contacts with audiences to check their degree of understanding.

7. What could the speaker have done differently that would have improved the speech?

I think I could use the tone change to emphasize strongly about survey.

Also, I could raise my voice to make it more audible.

8. What did you like about the presentation?

I liked my survey topic and the order of presentation. My survey topic was enough to attract audiences' interest! (I got praised of this by my audiences.) My survey questions were well ordered and organized. Also, I think I did a good analysis about my survey results. On the other hand, I was more comfortable because of absense of note! It was very surprising. I thought if there was no note, I would be more nervous. But it was easier to do my presentation. I think this presentation was more relaxed because I took it easy. 1. What strong points does the speaker have?
The PPT was designed properly. It helped the audience get the topic easily. Also, I memorized the script. The survey had 70 respondents so it was reliable. I made the characters to help the audience understand my speech.

I tried to contain as many and diverse questions as I could. I designed it to have ideas before being a CC, when they were CC, and after being a CC. Also I delivered the advantage and disadvantage of being a CC. I think I delivered the things I prepared.

As I said, I conducted a survey to 70 people. Also I made a simple story line to make the speech more interesting. Making the PPT with so many survey results was difficult but I did it as well. Also I had a quotation at the end of the presentation to make the audience effectively understand my message.

I spoke in moderate volume. Also I used my hands to deliver a better speech.

Next time it would be better if I contain more questions.

1. What strong points does the speaker have?

Opening with statistics made audience concentrate on the topic. (At least it was my intention)

And the topic is reflecting a current social problem. I desperately want to tell my friends in this university that their lives after they graduate could be even worse in case they do not have jobs that suits them. And I sold my own experience to make it sound stronger.

I think they understood pretty much everything I said. I started with current high unemployment rate leading to the real topic. And survey questions were designed to figure out what is the problem and what should job seekers do.

I made survey questions and conducted the survey to those who are in positions or situations that I want to warn others.

When I got my presentation feedback from professor, I was surprised with the feedback related to speed. I thought speed of the presentation is the thing for understanding. I am not the native speaker and the audience also not the native. So I spoke little slow and clear. But after the feedback, at this presentation I tried to do the presentation more fluently. I prepared it a lot and practiced again and again. So, in this presentation I did it more active and stable. And this time I prepared the visuals for understanding and I practiced with these visuals. Finally, at the real presentation in front of the audience I did it well. I was nervous so much as I did the presentation for the midterm, but I overcome that nervous and I did it. I have a clear and loud voice that audience could hear well. I prepared visual aids to help the audience to understand the speech well. Especially in visual aids, I put a statistics about the online game market to add credibility. I also interpreted the statistics in my own way.

Kind of Unsatisfying. I made my visual aid and practiced alot, but when I turned on my camera, I was so nervous that I couldnt remember the script that I memorized. But, visual aid was satisfying to me.

8. What did you like about the presentation?

Since it was the second presentation recording project, I thought I would go over it without hesitating. However, I was more nervous than the last presentation because I got some result already and because of that, I had some uncomfortable feeling about that. The result is not perfect. But, I've improved a lot, in my opinion. Last time, my pronounciation was not appropriate and my speech was very tensed. But in this presentation, my speed of speech was stablized and pronounciation. I think this is my best effort. And the topic of the content was funny and unique. The audiences said my topic was very interesting, too. I finished this presentation with satisfaction and it was great experience.

1. What strong points does the speaker have?

I think my strong points are good eye contact and gestures. I made even eye contact with the audience, and my gestures were not distracting.

I think the audience got to know the speech subject pretty well because, after the presentation, I got a feedback saying that now they can apply for a company in Japan.

Yes, I think the presentation reflected my preparation and efforts well. I researched a lot for this presentation and tried to make it simple but specific for everyone who has high possibilities of looking for a job abroad.

Eye contacts were good, and I didn't use the notes.

The presentation would've been better if I said a little bit slowly and made less 'um's during the presentation.

I liked my topic and the way it is organized. The presentation was really informative and useful for the audience who cannot understand Japanese and who are too busy to study the process in person. I also put only necessary information in the presentation not to make it too complicated.

1. What strong points does the speaker have?

I looked pretty comfortable throughout the speech. Also, good eye contact and gestures were made.

2. How well did the audience get to know the speech subject?

I tried to explain as many details as possible. They all agreed that my explaination was easy enough to people who were not familiar with topic.
I also tried to use visuals to attract more attention and help understanding.

Yes, although there was some pauses, I successfully finished my speech without big interruption. Also, a lot of eye contact were made as I pretty much prepared

everything I wated to say.

Voice was clear and loud enough to reach audiences and the camera.

I tried best to give clear differences on each part of presentation, although transition between body and conclusion was kind of grey.

Notes were not used at all, and the eye contact was made the whole time I spoke.

7. What could the speaker have done differently that would have improved the speech?

I could have adjusted talking speed throughout the entire speech. Also with longer conclusion it would have had little more clear ending.

Speaker was very comfortable, so I believe that audiences would also have been comfortable watching the presentation.

1. What strong points does the speaker have?

My stron points are loud voice and clear pronunciation, in my opinion. The room where I took my presentation video was so big that my voice was reverbareated too much, so it doesn't seem to be, though.

2. How well did the audience get to know the speech subject?

I think they understand most of the things that I wanted to tell them. I started the presentation with two questions to attract my audiences' attention, and then I introduce what the presentation would be like and I think it gave them a brief preview of what my speech is about. Also, through the hole process, I gave detailed explanations of chemicals which can help person who has no idea of them understand what I'm talking about. Most of all, as you can see in the video, my audience is nodding her head during my hole presentation and it gave me confident when I was giving my speech.

Unsatisfying. I practiced a lot and made visual aids. However, from the moment I turned on my video and started my presentation, I was so nervous that that I even forget the whole script that I memorized.

4. Did the speaker talk clearly and audibly?

As I said in the first question, my only strong point in giving presentation is loud and clear voice. It's bit fast, but I think it is audible enough.

5. Did the speech have a definite opening, body, and conclusion?

Definitely, yes. I spent a lot of time thinking how to start and how to end the presentation. Then I dedcided to start with questions that can attract audiences' attention and to end with the advices based on my own experience to make them think of themselves and also about my presentation. I think this helped ro bind my presentation properly.

6. Please comment on the speaker's use of notes/eye contact.

I tried to do eye contact with my audience, because I heard advice that I didn't do it very much in my previous presentation. Also I didn't use the note in my previous presentation, I was just holding it, not using it, but in this speech, I used it properly and nicely. It doesn't seem that I'm using it or holding it because it was on the desk in front of me. It was too heavy for me to hold it through the whole presentation. (It was my galaxy tap)

7. What could the speaker have done differently that would have improved the speech?

I think I improved. I used pause, eventhough it wasn't perfect. Also my presentation seem more natural than before. I used gestures, and moved a bit.

8. What did you like about the presentation?

I like ending of my presentation. Because it gives advices to audience while wrapping up the whole contents of presentation, and also the audience can sympathize with that sicnce it was based on my own experience as an university student who are preparing for the final exams.

Title : Time and effot preparing for the test

1. What strong points does the speaker have?
I am giving many survey results to give information about how much time and effort the students spend preparing for the test and why they study. By well formed survey, I have strong argument about the reason why students actually study.

2. How well did the audience get to know the speech subject?
I first expressed my survey topic and why I performed this survey clearly. So the audiences noticed the speech subject well.

3. Did the speech reflect adequate preparation?

Sure. Because my presentation was 'survey' presentation, I try to reflect survey results and consideration of results in order! I performed survey with many students to generalize the conclusion for adequate reason not to be exaggerated.

4. Did the speaker talk clearly and audibly?

Yes I did. I spoke as loud as I can in proper volume not to disturb audiences! :) I listened to this video and checked it immediately.

5. Did the speech have a definite opening, body, and conclusion?

Yes. I opened the presentation with the question, body parts with conjunctions and conclusion with 'to sum up'.

Actually, I wanted to check the printed ppt paper but it looks like I am reading the script! SO SAD.. I try to look my audiences and camera headed me both because the video watchers are also audiences for my speech I thought:)

7. What could the speaker have done differently that would have improved the speech?

It was kind of embarrassing so it was hard to make eye contact with my audiences. It would be much better if I do that!

8. What did you like about the presentation?

Personally, concluding part was the most elaborative and painstaking! I spend most time of preparing on this part because I thought Unit 3, survey presentation, requires speakers opinion and interpretation about results of survey precisely. So I tried searching for the social phenomenon! I am happy about the output of my suffering. Also I felt like my presentation is much getting better than the past. For instance, I didn't use gestures, using pauses for attention and controling high and low of the voice for emphasis. Since I saw those kinds of weakness improve a lot, I love my presentation and I am satisfied with it fully:)

Title : Drinking Water

1. What strong points does the speaker have?

I think my strong points in the presentation were that the whole presentation was well-organized and my voice was clear and loud enough for the audiences to understand easily.

2. How well did the audience get to know the speech subject?

I think the audiences were able to learn how much drinking water is beneficial for our body and if one doesn't enjoy drinking water, he or she was able to find out what they can drink instead of water. In addition, they were able to find out how to calculate the amount of water that fits to their own body.

3. Did the speech reflect adequate preparation?

I prepared for the presentation for a long time by making visual aids and keep practicing on speaking, the overall presentation flowed really smoothly and it reflected adequate preparation.

4. Did the speaker talk clearly and audibly?

Yes. I think I spoke clear and loud enough for the audiences to understand the presentation.

Yes. My presentation began with some opening questions in order to have some interactions with the audiences. The body part of the presentation was including advantages of drinking water, substitutions of water, and the proper amount of water that people should drink daily. For the conclusion part, I summarized the main points and ended the presentation with a quote.

I did not memorized the whole speech since I thought that it would affect the flow of whole presentation so I used note cards during the presentation. I think the presentation could have been better if I did not look at the notes too often. However, I made some good eye contacts with the audiences during the presentation.

7. What could the speaker have done differently that would have improved the speech?

I could have looked at the notes less and that would make the presentation better.

8. What did you like about the presentation?

I think my presentation was clearly organized well and it gave interesting facts about how much drinking water is important for human bodies. Also, after delivering some advantages, I suggested some other ways that people can get healthier if one cannot drink water. The whole presentation was clear and interesting.
